Sonic boom: Drive-in burger joint big on traffic, not flavor Boston Herald

“The generally wait has been one and a half hours,” one Sonic employee said. If you want to nab one of 21 coveted parking bays where you sup in your automobile, be prepared to wait a bit longer. The new restaurant also boasts a drive-through window and a covered patio with torturous table seating for 40. Patio diners formed lines to order at the two outdoor kiosks and tempers frayed without difficulty.
Bostonians are understandably curious about this national franchise, known for its clever TV commercials and roller-skating carhops.
The comestibles, however, is a disappointment.
The signature Sonic Burger - spongy roll, thin patty, lettuce, tomato, pickle and determination of condiments - is nothing special. The Extra Long Chili Cheese Coney, a hot dog smothered in chili and melted cheese, isn’t value the traffic and time spent standing in line to get it.
Neither is the Chicken Club Toaster of fried, virginal meat chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, melted cheese and mayo layered between two slabs of feeble Texas toast. It’s forgettably ordinary.
